Notes: Hannah was the sister of two soldiers, William and John, both serving overseas. John, the younger, was killed and is buried in Jerusalem. William survived, but brought home Spanish flu. He survived that too, but Hannah caught it nursing him, and died. Letters from both brothers, in Welsh and English, survive.

Notes: aged 38. On her grave it says that the stone was erected by her family and ‘Newport Women’s Liberal Association of which she was the secretary for 18 years’. A plaque has also been placed on her grave by the Commonwealth War Commission. Her name also appears on the WW1 Roll of Honour book kept in Newport Reference Library and the Welsh National Book of Remembrance.

Notes: Clemima Coopey became entangled in the machinery of the motor-house at the Blaenavon.Co.Ltd. She was rushing to catch the 9.30 pm train, and had illegally left her shoes there. Her husband was a soldier fighting in Salonika, and she had three young children.
