Notes: Lilian Laloe was the daughter of Auguste Felix Laloe, a teacher from France who became headmaster of the Queen Elixabeth Grammar School in 1874. She joined the Scottish Womens Hospitals as a cook, but was rapidly promoted to Adminstrator.

Mabel Mary Tunley

Service: Acting Principal Matron, QAIMNS, 1903 - 1925

Notes: After serving in the Boer War, Mabel Tunley joined QAIMNS in 1903 as a staff nurse, rising to become Acting Principal Matron in France and Flanders during WWI. Among other awards, she received the Military Medal for 'exceptionally good work in assisting getting all the patients, 260, down to the cellars, so that when the Clearing Station was eventually hit not one of the patients received a scratch. Her cheeriness and courage were instrumental in keeping everyone who came in contact with her up to the mark. She was slightly wounded and remained at duty.' Bethune, 7th August 1916.

Notes: A young woman, Elizabeth Davies, of Sandfield House, Burry Port, died at Llanelly General Hospital on Sunday, from injuries sustained at the Pembrey National Filling Factory. The deceased was dismounting from a works train while in motion at its arrival at the Factory on Friday, when she slipped between the footboard and the platform. She was dragged some distance and sustained severe internal injuries. Llanelly and County Guardian 13th May 1920 Aged 17. Notes: Mabel Dearmer, born 1872, was a successful writer, dramatist and illustrator of adult and children’s books. She and her husband the Rev Percy Dearmer were both pacifists and supporters of the Church League for Women’s Suffrage. When her husband accepted a post as chaplain to the British Red Cross in Serbia, she volunteered to go too, and died in July 1915. Her letters home were published posthumously as ‘Letters from a Field Hospital’.
